The project's first year was devoted to the selection, along environmental, social and economic criteria, of local specialities able to offer favourable prerequisites for a future labellization.
71 produce made the first list, of which 23 were preselected and presented at a meeting hosted by EPA in Addis Ababa in October 2007, attended by all the official partners of the project: government organisations, public and private sector, producers, distributors..
Following this work session, 12 produce plus a reserve list of 7, were finally picked and will be the subject of detailed interdisciplinary studies.
These studies will spread over the next 2 years, 2008 being devoted to 6 "pilot" produce, and 2009 to 6 "target" produce.
